Join us as Ottawa shares his story, his inspirations, and the advice he would give to his younger self. His words are a powerful reminder that success is not just about breaking barriers but about lifting others as you rise.

Slick: Ottawa, you’ve achieved so much at such a young age. If you had to describe yourself in just five words, what would they be?

Ottawa: Hmm, let’s see… Passionate, Energetic, Curious, Loving, and—this might surprise you—a bit of a maniac sometimes (haha).

Slick: A maniac? That’s intriguing. What kind of “maniac” are we talking about here?

Ottawa: Oh, the good kind! I get so obsessed with whatever I’m passionate about—whether it’s a project, a creative idea, or even something I’ve never done before. I dive all in, no halfway with me.

Slick: That kind of passion clearly shines through. What would you say inspires you the most?

Ottawa: Everything around me, honestly. I’m naturally curious, so I tend to find inspiration in the smallest things—especially in nature. There’s something so pure and raw about it. And then there’s the culture of the ’80s and ’90s; I love how everything back then had a story, from the fashion to the music.

“Passion and curiosity are the fuel that drive my journey, both in life and in fashion. Every step is a chance to inspire and be inspired.” – Ottawa Kwami

Slick: You’ve come a long way from Accra to walking for Louis Vuitton. Do you have a memory that stands out from your journey?

Ottawa: Oh, without a doubt, the day I flew to Europe for the first time. My entire family came to the airport to see me off. It was such a beautiful moment—so much love and support all around me. I’ll never forget that feeling of pride and encouragement.

Slick: That sounds amazing. What do you usually do when you’re not modeling?

Ottawa: I like to stay active, so I do daily home workouts to keep myself in shape physically and mentally. Beyond that, I’m always creating—writing, designing, or even just capturing moments that inspire me. Anything that keeps my mind busy and my creativity flowing.

Slick: Speaking of creative moments, when have you felt the biggest adrenaline rush in your career?

Ottawa: That would be when my agent called to tell me I was confirmed exclusively for Louis Vuitton. And not just any show—it was Virgil Abloh’s first collection for the house. I was speechless! I couldn’t even process it at first. It felt surreal.

Ottawa: That would be when my agent called to tell me I was confirmed exclusively for Louis Vuitton. And not just any show—it was Virgil Abloh’s first collection for the house. I was speechless! I couldn’t even process it at first. It felt surreal.

Slick: That’s a monumental moment! What’s driving you to keep pushing in such a competitive industry?

Ottawa: At the beginning, so many people doubted me. They didn’t see modeling as a “real” career, especially where I come from. But that only made me more determined. My ultimate goal is to create a stable and successful life through this path and to inspire young people—especially in Ghana—to see modeling as a legitimate and rewarding profession.

Slick: That’s such an important message. Is there a cause or issue you feel particularly connected to?

Ottawa: Definitely. Growing up, I was fortunate to have both of my parents guide and support me. Not every child has that, and it makes such a difference. I’ve seen so many kids with incredible potential who don’t get the same opportunities. I want to help them develop their talents and show the world what they’re capable of.

Slick: That’s beautiful. Who or what has been your biggest influence in life and in your career?

Ottawa: My parents, for sure. I grew up watching my mom work with African prints and blend them with a touch of Western style. She was basically living fashion, and it rubbed off on me. Their hard work and values have shaped me in so many ways.

Slick: If you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you tell him?

Ottawa: I’d tell him, “Never let anyone’s opinion intimidate you. Love yourself, follow your dreams, and don’t hold back. Dream big—because you’re capable of so much more than you think.”

However, 2020 feels like his moment has finally arrived: bookings at Marni, Acne Studios, and Fendi. Furthermore, Jil Sander’s go-to casting director, Henry Thomas, selected him to close their show. Ottawa is now the biggest Ghanaian based model working around the globe!

Slick: Who is Ottawa Kwami in 5 words…

Ottawa: Passionate, Energetic, Curious, Loving, and also a maniac sometimes haha.

Slick: What is your source of inspiration?

Ottawa: I’m inspired by a whole lot of stuff around me because I’m very curious but most of my inspiration is from nature and old cultures like (the 80s and late 90s way of life).

Slick: What is your most treasured memory?

Ottawa: I will say the first time I had to fly to Europe and seeing my whole family at the airport to support and encourage me. Feeling so much love and support was one of the best days of my life.

Slick: What’s your favorite past-time?

Ottawa: Each day I do my usual home workouts and try my best to create content with whatever I find amazing around me. I also like to write and design.

Slick: When have you felt your biggest adrenaline rush?

Ottawa: When my agent called me to inform me that I was confirmed exclusively for LV, it was also Virgil Abloh’s first collection with the renowned house. I was speechless!!

Slick: What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progress in this field?

Ottawa: When I chose to begin this path, lots of people didn’t believe in me and kept discouraging me and this actually made me go harder. My ultimate goal is to create a great and stable life out of modeling. I want young models and also parents from where I am from to know modeling is just like every other occupation and they can trust and believe that they can become great and make something out of it.

Slick: What is an issue or cause you are passionate about?

Ottawa: While growing up, I had both parents to support and guide me through everything which has really helped and shaped me pretty well into who I am today. I see lots of kids who don’t have this chance and most of them have great potential and skills. I just want to support them and help them bring out what they’ve got in them.

Slick: Who or what has been your major influence?

Ottawa: My biggest influence has been my parents, their business, and culture. I grew up in a home where my mom deals in all sorts of African prints and also a bit of western style. I was literally born into fashion.

Slick: What’s the biggest change you’ve experienced in the last 02 years?

Ottawa: A whole lot has changed especially my fashion sense and beliefs about a lot of life issues.

Slick: If you could tell your former self one thing right now what would it be?

Ottawa: Never be intimidated about what others think about you, love yourself, and follow your dreams. Don’t be afraid to Dream Big !!
